The Mastermind PBC from RJM Music Technology is a top-of-the-line audio switcher and MIDI controller. With I/O for up to four stereo pedals, you’ll need to make sure you have the right cables for a stereo setup.
There are three cable variants you’ll need to know about depending on your setup, and I’ll use the same terminology as the PBC manual.
Three different TRS plug options are available to make sure it fits where you need it to.
Ring Disconnect - This cable is used to go from the output of loops 7-10 into a pedal with a mono input.
Mono to Stereo Converter - This cable is used to go from the output of a pedal with a mono output into the return of loops 7-10
Insert - This cable is used to go from either the output of loops 7-10 into a pedal with stereo inputs, or pedal with stereo outputs into the return of loops 7-10.
These three cables support three different scenarios, and you’ll always need two cables for each pedal. Here’s how it breaks down:
You have a pedal with a mono input and mono output
You need a Ring Disconnect (PBC out to pedal in) and a Mono to Stereo Converter (pedal out to PBC in)
You have a pedal with a mono input and a stereo output.
You need a Ring Disconnect (PBC out to pedal in) and an Insert Cable (pedal out to PBC in)
You have a pedal with a stereo input and a stereo output.
You need two Insert cables.
The latest version of the Mastermind PBC manual is located on the RJM website, and it contains additional information about the cables described above.
And please make sure to check the position of the Mono -> Stereo button on the rear (should NOT be depressed for stereo operation)
